Spend the evening exploring the serene landscape of the Caroni Wetlands and watch for sights of the magnificent Scarlet Ibis soaring through the sky. Perfect for bird watchers and outdoor enthusiasts, this mangrove swamp boat journey offers spectacular treats for both your eyes and ears. This will be an experience to remember!

Your Caroni Wetlands Sunset experience starts with your pickup at your hotel lobby and you are driven in comfort on a scenic roadway to the Caroni Wetlands.

Arrive at the Caroni Bird Sanctuary, a 48-square-mile (77-sq-km) wetland area on Trinidad's western coast. Part dense mangrove swamp and part sparkling lagoon, this richly vegetative nature reserve is thriving with a variety of wildlife waiting to be discovered. Be sure to keep eye out for the blood-red Scarlet Ibis—Trinidad's national bird—streaking across the sky.

Board a spacious flat-bottomed boat with outboard motor and drift slowly along the swamp's waterways, taking in sights of thick foliage and exotic birds, like the large-billed tern and snowy egret. Red, black, and white mangroves flank the edges of the channels, thick aerial roots add another layer to the surrounding scenery. You eventually find yourself in a peaceful lagoon, which is the perfect place to watch the spectacular home flight of the the large bright red Scarlet Ibis to their roosting trees or nesting sites. See them flying by the dozens, the golden hues of the setting sun accompany the experience. Nature par excellence!

At the end of your tour, enjoy a comfortable ride back to your hotel with a heart filled with Trinidad and Tobago!

Explore central Trinidad's main city, Chaguanas, with its bustling fresh produce market and lively bazaar-filled streets, on this 5-hour mini island tour from Port of Spain. Visit the museum of pottery, the Temple of the Sea, and the statue of Lord Hanuman at the Hindu Temple and adjoining Ashram Yoga Center.

Your day begins with a 9am pickup from your Port of Spain hotel. Greet your local guide, board the vehicle and travel through the flat plains of central Trinidad to the third largest city, Chaguanas.

Enjoy all that the busy bazaar streets and fresh produce markets of Chaguanas have to offer. With local fruits, provisions, meats and snacks, vendors put them all on display for purchase. Look out for the hot peppers! Also try some local East Indian snacks, like Khurma.

Afterward, visit a small pottery house where you can see different types of ornaments like plant pots, vases, and wind chimes being made by hand right in front of you. See the entire process from shaping, then drying, then baking the products. Give it a try and get your own hands dirty by creating something special to take home.

Next, visit the Hindu temples. Most of Trinidad’s East Indian population is located in Central Trinidad and so you see a number of Hindu temples, and prayer flags in the yards of seemingly every house. See the largest (85-foot/26-meter) statue of the Hindu monkey-god, Lord Hanuman, outside of India. A tour of the site including the attached yoga center allows you to learn about interesting rituals and concepts — for example, the tying of a dried coconut to the temple compound fence for sixteen days is said to fulfill your wishes. The gigantic temple is bright-pink and to some resembles a big wedding cake.

To conclude the tour, take a short drive across to the Temple in the Sea and Cremation Site and the East Indian Museum. Also enjoy a tasty, authentic roti lunch (not included in tour price) before being dropped off back at your Port of Spain hotel at around 2pm.
